The Road

This is the road. And this is what I saw on the road.

Haiti: Docked cruise ship off loading passengers.

Haiti: The locals loaded small boats with goods to transport.

Haiti: Viewing a swarm of jetskis from above.

Haiti: Waves crashed against the shores.

Haiti: End of tropical trail with a balcony-beach overlook.

Haiti: A textured wall.

Haiti: Palm tree branches swaying in the sunlight.

Cozumel, Mexico: Riding fast in the back of a Jeep.

Bird Creek, Alaska: A fisher man was mauled by a grizzly bear down there the follwing afternoon.

Russian Falls, Alaska: Cooked and ate salmon for dinner. Slept next to a loaded shot gun in my tent, here.

Alaska, Kenai Peninsula: No trail. Bushwacking, sometimes verticle, with fists in mud, up Sheep Mountain.

Alaska: Bare-knuckle mountain climbing in the rain.

Alaska: Hanging onto a tree root with one hand and taking a photo with my other, while climbing Sheep Mt. with a 50 pound pack on my back.

Alaska: We broke through the brush at 4,000 ft. of elev. and were rewarded with a cliff edge to set up our tent. Thunderstorm followed.

Alaska: Hiked down Sheep Mt. to the train tracks, leading us to the road for a cell signal.

Alaska: Red bear berries at my feet. Looking down Sheep mountain into Kenai Lake.

Alaska: Navigating Sheep mountain to a creek to fill up our water we saw on the map, before heading down.

Homer, Alaska: Walk 'n the dock to the fishing charter boat before sunrise.

Badlands, Eastern-Montana: Hung off the top of a large ATV to a secluded badland gultch to set up camp, drink and shoot large guns.

Badlands, Eastern-Montana: Hot sun. Shells on the ground. A broken ATV. And a 5 mile hike to the truck with low water.

Las Vegas, Nevada: I mostly partied here. I plan on going back.

Mount Rushmore, South Dakota: I got lucky with the clear blue sky post card look.

Devils Tower, Wyoming: A raccoon snuck into my cooler outside the tent and ran off with an uncooked sausage into the night.

Naples Pier, Florida: Caught a woman, in silhouette, staring off into the evening waters.

Alliance, Nebraska: Carhendge. And all of its glory.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park: I stood up. The bison grunted. The bison charged me. I turned and ran behind a camper. It was pissed.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park: Different bison. Much farther away. Closer crop. Still pissed.

Slough Creek Trail, Yellowstone: Lush forest greens and poofy white clouds floating through a crisp blue sky. Beautiful trail.

Ice Lake, Yellowstone: We hiked the last mile to camp with headlamps after sundown.

Yellowstone: 400mm lens. Mono-pod. 40mph winds. Snapped a million frames and got this one with a strait horizon. Proud.

Yellowstone: Sitting and waiting at the forest's edge for anything. A bison appears through the early morning geyser steam.

Yellowstone: After an hour and a half, she raised her head to strike one pose, before lowering it to eat from the ground again. Timing.

Yellowstone: Hiked into Lamar Valley. Heard a howl. Looked up. Black wolf was 70 yards ahead of me. I backed up and took photos.

Yellowstone: After an hour of waiting, the female Osprey made a large pass, 1,000 feet above the Lamar River into her nest to feed her young.

Yellowstone: Nez Perce Creek in morning light.

Yellowstone: Dramatic and dreary down in Soad Butte Creek.

Yellowstone: Backpacked 20 miles in one day. This is mile 15 after I collapsed on the side of Mount Holmes from altitude sickness. Sat for a minute and made summit at 10,335 ft. Then back down to camp.

Yellowstone: A large snow storm was pushing out of the park. Headed east through Sylvan before they blocked the road.

Wyoming: Traveling south from Yellowstone to the Grand Teton Mountains.

Grand Tetons, Wyoming: Jackson Lake's ice-cold waters and a loaded empty boat, ready to go.

Grand Tetons, Wyoming: Sat on the ground and photographed mountain peaks for an afternoon. Peaceful.

Yellowstone: The sun fell behind Bliss Pass and splashed purple across the sky.
